Money raised in Canada generally remains in Canada. Some personal donations from members might go to International ( such as through the “Buy a Brick” program). All money raised from gaming such as from casinos and through diabetic fundraising is spent in Canada. Many donations go to the Canada Foundation, Inc. and then an elected group of members go over research applications and make a decision on a yearly basis. Dr. Rajotte’s research on islet transplants and the Edmonton Protocol has been partially supported over the past few years through this Foundation and from club activities. The Edmonton Protocol has received significant funds from money raised through Rock’n August and through our donations to the Alberta Diabetes Foundation. We also make donation as decided by the club to applications made by community organizations or by individuals in need when their needs are not being met in any other way. *Note: You probably have heard of the success of the islet transplants as Edmonton has become world reknown in this area.
Personal donations are also are made by becoming a Beacon’s member. This is a plan at the Federations and International levels whereby members plan on donating a certain amount over a ten year period. The amount varies with the different levels available in the Beacon’s program. This money is also spent in Canada. For more information on Beacon’s donations go to Cosmopolitan International.
