History of the Club

Cosmo_Logo_Blacksm

The club is a nonprofit charity organization and is committed to finding a cure for diabetes.
Our club’s charter date is 10/25/94. We are part of
Cosmopolitan International and detailed information is available there about Cosmopolitan International, our Federation, and our objectives. There is also information about diabetes on their site.
Present day Cosmopolitan clubs are an offshoot of those established by Patrick J. Hodgins in Oklahoma City in 1914. He relocated to Kansas City and the articles of incorporation were signed in 1918 in Kansas City. The first Canadian charter was granted in 1927 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Today Cosmopolitan clubs exist in USA., Mexico and Canada.
We are part of the Western Canada Federation which consists of clubs in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.  There are four Alberta clubs; one in Calgary, one in Edmonton and two in St. Albert.
Lyle Hardy and Les Paull were members of the St. Albert Cosmopolitan Club which consisted exclusively of male members. With the support of the St. Albert club, they initiated the Sturgeon Valley Cosmopolitan Club consisting of a mixed club of singles, partners, males and females. There were originally 26 charter members with nine of them still remaining with us.
We are now in our 13th year of operation.
